As part of the School of Visual Arts -Material Futures course, the MFA program taught on site at Material Connexion. U Stool was created to encourage active sitting,  to use significantly less energy in the manufacturing process and be compostable in such a way as to become land-art in its afterlife. It engages the participant by gently rocking, allowing them to use their abdominal muscles and feet for support. U Stool makes long periods of sitting more comfortable because the user is constantly shifting their weight and reducing the amount of mechanical load on the back, hips and other parts of the body.
